JAKARTA: Local blues band Gugun Blues Shelter has dedicated its sixth album to US and European markets.
Titled Solid Ground, the album is the second international album for the band under the New York-based label Grooveyard Records. Their first album is titled Far East Blues Experience, which was released by the same label. The band also changed its name to Gugun Power Trio for commercial reasons related to its global expansion. “[We changed our name] because in the US, the word ‘shelter’ is associated with a place for impoverished people,” the band’s frontman Muhammad “Gugun” Gunawan said in the press conference for the album’s launch. Gugun said the band was planning for another UK tour next year. The band just got back from the “Hard Rock Calling” music festival in Hyde Park London in June.
